In-Home Euthanasia

Franklin, TN

End of life care in the comfort of your own home

Why choose in-home euthanasia?

The word “euthanasia” comes from the Greek words “eu” (good) and “thanatos” (death). Euthanasia allows a pet to experience a “good death” instead of having to suffer a slow or painful death. It is our honor in the veterinary profession to help pets live well and die gracefully. Saying goodbye is never easy but doing it at home can be of great benefit to your pet by providing less stress, more comfort in a familiar setting, the ability to spend their final moments in their favorite spot or in your arms, a more peaceful, private atmosphere, and less rush. Choosing to prevent suffering is one of the kindness things you can do for your pet, and we want to make this transition as smooth, peaceful, and caring as possible for you and your pet.

Testimonials

  • "Dr. Amy was kind and supportive and we appreciate her willingness to help our Cash pass peacefully. It takes a gentle soul to enter homes of sadness, manage a grieving family and a sick pet. Dr. Amy did just that and we LOVED supporting a local small business like Bentley Veterinary Services. I highly recommend Dr. Amy Smith for any family searching for that gentle soul to help them and their pet."

  • "Making the decision that we needed euthanasia services for our sweet cat was one of the hardest we've made. And we thought it would be one of the worst days of our lives. But while it was very sad, Dr. Amy Smith and her husband Ryan really took care of us the entire way and it ended up being a very sweet moment that we cherish. Ryan was so understanding as we decided on a date. And Dr. Smith came in and let us talk about Maddie and how much we loved her. And the painful journey that brought us to this decision. She cared about us and cared about Maddie. Our sweet cat was able to leave this world free of pain, at her home, surrounded by love. I cannot recommend her highly enough."

  • "Although it's never easy putting a pet down, Amy made the experience as peaceful and wonderful as it could be. We needed a vet to come to our house in a matter of hours and she was able to make it happen. She was so sweet and empathetic. She moved things along in a slow understanding pace. Our sweet Meeko got to lay in his own bed as he drifted off to sleep and we got to hold him for as long as we needed. We are very thankful for Amy and the team for making this transition as gentle as it could be. They followed up with wonderful notes, and prints of his paws and nose."

  • "We had a need to put our lab down on a Sunday during off hours and within minutes of filling out the online form Amy had texted me and told me she could be to our house in 2 hours. She was awesome throughout the process. I would highly recommend Amy if you are in the greater Franklin/Brentwood area."

  • "We recently used Bentley Veterinary Services and Dr. Amy Smith for our sweet dog, Wade. She was recommended by our local vet when we asked about home end of life care. Dr. Smith was professional, calm and supportive. She explained the process and it was a completely different experience than going to the vet’s office in the past for euthanasia for our pets. It was low stress, no anxiety and no rush. Although it was sad, I’m glad she was the vet here at our home. I’d highly recommend her for this service."

  • "I could not speak higher of our experience with Dr. Amy. She was genuinely compassionate with us and our dog and took such time and care with us. She really went the extra mile in every way possible and made it such a calm and peaceful experience for our family."

  • "Kitty was my soul animal. She was approx. 16yrs old and her health was really going downhill. I got in touch with Dr. Smith who helped my family through a really tough time. She is very professional, sweet, thoughtful and so caring. She was patient with us, explained everything in great detail and waited for us to be ready. When kitty passed, Dr. Smith tucked her tightly with a basket and blanket that she brought with her, she was well taken care of. Dr. Smith is amazing and I HIGHLY recommend her to anyone who unfortunately has to travel this path. Thank you for everything Dr. Smith."

  • "I can not express how thankful I am for this service. Our vet, Dr. Smith, was so very kind and patient with us. We did have several concerns and she was so sweet to answer all of them with great patience and knowledge. Our sweet Scout was cared for and surrounded by those who loved him well. Dr. Smith cared for all of us as well as Scout. She treated him with great care and dignity. We were not rushed at all during this time of good-bye. Dr. Smith hugged each one of us and told us how sorry she was that we had to say good-bye too soon to our sweet puppy. The ashes arrived in a beautiful box and we could tell that there was great consideration given to our pet. Thank you so much. If you have a pet please consider this service. We did not have to put Scout in the car, upset him or cause him any fear. He was safe at home with his family. Thank you so much."

  • "I'm heartbroken to have had to call Bentley Veterinary Services, but after almost three years of fighting, our poor boy's cancer had metastasized and there weren't any treatment options available that would improve his quality of life. We called Lap of Love Nashville and CodaPet, and neither had appointments available. Our vet referred us to Dr. Amy Smith @ Bentley Veterinary. She responded immediately, and with such compassion. We made a same-day appointment, and she took the time to ask questions about our boy, medication sensitivities, condition, etc. When she arrived, she did so with kindness and care, taking the time to answer questions. Our children chose to be in the room, and we all snuggled our boy while Dr. Smith administered the sedative and the final medication. After he passed away peacefully and painlessly, she asked if we wanted a paw print or a clay print, and she provided both for both of our kids, as well as a fur keepsake. While it was an incredibly difficult experience, having a vet who clearly cared about our boy and our family was invaluable. While losing a pet is one of the most painful experiences ever, being able to give the final gift of passing away with love is incredibly important. Thank you, Dr. Smith, for your expertise, compassion and immense kindness."

  • "Dr. Smith was incredibly kind, patient and professional. One of the most difficult parts of saying goodbye was the stress of what would happen when the vet arrived, but Dr. Smith immediately put us at ease and brought a calming presence. She took our preferences into account and allowed us to give Scout a peaceful transition. Forever thankful to have had Dr Smith during this difficult time."

  • "Dr. Smith helped us send our little girl across the bridge. She was kind, compassionate, and patient. I was thankful for her presence at such a hard time. I know my dog went peacefully because of Dr. Smith."

  • "I cannot say enough about Dr. Amy. Her compassion, care and attention to every detail made such a difference to us. She moved heaven and earth to make everything peaceful and beautiful. She made one of our worst days a little less heavy. I cannot recommend her more! Thank you for the time, effort, care and the peace you brought us and our baby."

  • "I am very happy with my decision to use Dr. Smith’s services. My dog got to spend his last moments in a quiet environment and on my soft bed. He didn’t have to go through the anxiety and discomfort of going to the vet. Unfortunately, it is more expensive than going to the vet, but it was 100% worth it. Dr. Smith was very nice. We wanted it to be as quiet as possible in the house to help keep our dog calm, and she did just that. She was very calm, patient and empathetic. Highly recommend."

I can assure you that in your time of need she will be there to help and make the process as easy as possible. Many thanks."

  • "I was struggling with having to put my sweet 17 yo Pomeranian Nugget down and I saw a post for Bentley Veterinary Service. This was such an amazing experience!! Dr. Amy was so wonderful and caring. She took the time to let me spend as much time as I needed with nugget and she walked me through every step. Please if you ever have to go through this please give the wonderful company a call ….It was so worth it."

  • "Dr. Smith was tremendous. She helped our 15-year-old cat pass on peacefully at home. She was great with the cat, but even better with the humans. Dr. Smith explained everything step by step and comforted us throughout the process. She anticipated things which might upset us and warned us in advance. The extra touches and the compassion were so impressive. She followed up with us and our regular veterinarian the next day. From start to finish she was both professionally competent as a veterinarian and profoundly empathetic as a person. It was clear that she had prepared little details specifically for us and our pet. On the business side of things, the rates were reasonable and transparent. It was easy to make arrangements and communicate about the appointment. We cannot say enough positive things about Bentley Veterinary Service and Dr. Smith."

  • "Amy was amazing beyond words when we had to put our 14 year old dog down. She was able to get to our house within a few hours of my initial contact with her. The process was very easy and her patience and understanding level was exactly what we needed in such a time of chaos. I feel connected to her forever as she was part of our dogs final moments. Highly recommend!"
